Social media management: what it means and what it costs in 2026
"We'll handle your social media" is a promise wide enough to cover almost anything: a cousin posting memes on Tuesdays, or a team that builds the whole thing for you. Both are sold under the same name.
That is the confusion this market runs on, so here is what serious management actually means, what you get, and what it costs.
What serious management actually includes
- Strategy: who your customer is, which platforms they actually use, which message reaches them.
- An editorial calendar: what goes out, on which day, and why.
- Production: design, video, copy, all of it made, not just listed in a spreadsheet.
- Scheduling and publishing.
- At the end of the month, a report on the numbers that matter: saves, shares, profile visits, messages.
Five pieces. The one that goes missing is almost always the one that was bringing in the customers. We have seen it too often to call it bad luck.
What you actually get every month
On a full package the content arrives already made, the calendar arrives ready to approve, the posts go out on schedule, and the report lands at the end of the month. You approve, the agency does the rest. Your hour on social media turns into five minutes of saying yes.
One question sorts the good ones from the rest before you sign: "what exactly do I get this month, in pieces I can count?" If the answer takes a meeting to explain, you already have your answer.
Month one with an agency, step by step
- Week 1: onboarding. The agency takes your business apart: who buys, what people ask on the phone, what competitors post and where they leave gaps. Then the strategy and the calendar come back to you. Approve them or cut them. This is the month your opinion carries the most weight, so use it.
- Weeks 2 to 4: production and the first posts. Content goes out on the agreed schedule while the agency watches the early signals: what people save, what they pass on, where the profile visits come from.
- End of month: the report. Saves, shares, visits and messages, and what changes next month because of them. If the report shows only likes and impressions, ask for a different report. Or a different agency.
What it costs in 2026
- A post, per item: from 8 EUR.
- A carousel: 13 EUR.
- A video: from 50 EUR.
- Full management, with strategy, calendar, production and reporting: from 50 EUR a month excluding VAT.
These are our own prices and they are public, because "it depends on the brief" is not a price, it is a delay.
The honest comparison is not against zero. It is against hiring someone: salary, taxes, tools, training, and the hours you spend coordinating them, hours that appear on no payroll and cost you anyway.
For most small businesses the agency is cheaper and shows up more reliably. The full arithmetic is in our piece on an in-house team versus an agency.
When outsourcing makes sense
- When your hour is worth more inside the business than on your phone.
- When you want consistency, not a burst of posts followed by three weeks of silence.
- When there is nobody to hire, train and hold on to.
The other side of it, said just as plainly: if you like making content and the hour is really there, do it yourself. It will come out more personal than anything an agency makes. That is why our carousel and hook guides are public, with no catch in them.
Five red flags when picking a supplier
- A portfolio with no names, only "confidential projects".
- Round numbers with no proof, "a million views" and no link.
- Guaranteed virality. Nobody has a contract with the algorithm.
- A price far below everyone else's. Good production costs money, and someone always pays the difference, usually in the work.
- Slow replies while they are still trying to win you. If they take three days to answer now, expect worse once you have signed.
What to look for instead: a real portfolio, numbers you can check, a process you can follow. That list is laid out in our guide on how to choose an agency.
And one measure counts more than all the rest. Good management is not measured by how many posts it makes. It is measured by how many customers it brings you. That is the only reason to pay for it.
